In a typical scene that many will remember from the 1950s and 60s, a Royal Navy Westland Whirlwind flies a low patrol along the shoreline. The Whirlwind is depicted over Eccles on Sea, Norfolk. It is a typical peaceful summers day and the crew have time to sit and wave at the holidaymakers below.

Whilst with 263 Sqn flying a twin-engined Whirlwind he was shot down over Morlaix airfield on 30th October 1943 and successfully evaded capture and made it back to the UK with the help of the Résistance. He rejoined 197 Sqn flying Typhoons for the rest of the war.
