Aviation Art Collecton - Flight Lieutenant Ralph Roberts

Joined the RAAF in 1939 with No.616 Sqn and after gaining his wings ferried Hurricanes to the front line in France. Moving to No.615 Sqn he flew Gladiators during the Dunkirk evacuation, then converting to Hurricanes took part in the Battle of Britain. He transferred to No.64 Sqn where he flew Spitfires and shot down two Do17 on the 13th of August. However, he was shot down himself on the 15th, landing his badly damaged Spitfire (K9964 SH-W) in France, where both he and the aircraft were captured. He spent the rest of the war in captivity while the Spitfire was repaired and flown by the Germans. He died on 28th October 1994.
