Born in Konigsberg, Karl-Heinz Decker joined the German army in 1943, trained as a tank crewman and transferred to the 12th Waffen SS Panzer Division in Belgium in 1944. Staying with this elite unit in France during the Allied invasion he fought throughout the Normandy campaign, on D-Day, at Falaise and was eventually taken PoW. He died on 8th December 2015.

The Road to Tscherkassy, Medwin, Ukraine, 3rd-9th February 1943 by David Pentland. Mountain troops riding on Panther tanks of 2nd Battalion 23rd Panzer Regiment, Heavy Tank Regiment Bake in a successful attempt to outflank major soviet forces blocking the route to Tscherkassy. While the Tiger battalion launched a frontal attack on the enemy positions, the Panthers were able to attack from the rear, totally surprising the defenders. Panzer IVGs of 7th Company, 2nd Panzer Battalion, 12th SS Division, supporting Panzer Grenadiers fron the 2nd Battalion, 25th Panzer Grenadier Regiment, in their attack on St Contest and Gamanche. Rearguard on the Duna Front, Latvia, 4th August 1944 by David Pentland. Sturmgeschutz IIIG of 1st Battery, Sturmartillerie Brigade 912, led by Hauptmann Richard Engelmann, during the fighting around Jackony farmstead. This was only one battle in a series of actions to hold back the Russian 2nd Baltic Fronts summer offensive. By the end of this campaign he had personally destroyed 54 enemy tanks, all but 3 in this July - August period. Heinrich Köhler was transferred to the 19.Panzer-Division in the Artillery Regiment in November 1942. Heinrich Köhler was involved in the action around Toropez-Bjeloy, where a large number of Russian troops and vehicles were captured by the Germans. Kohler was also involved in the relieve of the Italian Forces at Tschertkowo, near Stalingrad on the 19th December 1942. Night Fight, Bollersdorf, East of Berlin, 19th April 1945 by David Pentland. Following a full day of combat Hauptscharfurher Korner of SS Heavy Tank Battalion 503 foiled a night attack by a battalion of Josef Stalin JSII heavy tanks. By the end of the day he had accounted for 76 enemy tanks, over 40 of these on this one day alone. It was his 25th birthday. This was one of only two remaining King Tigers belonging to Heavy SS Tank Battalion 503 in Berlin. Wachtmeister Fritz Amling was a gun commander in 3rd Battery, Sturmgeschutz Battalion 202, in the Wajsma sector of the front at the start of the Soviet Operation Mars. During the first days fighting Amling, along with his gunner Bruno Guskowski, accounted for 24 enemy tanks, five of these in one minute!
