Joined No.610 at the height of the Battle of Britain and scored 3 victories. Flew with Douglas Bader in No.41 Sqn in 1941 before a period of instructing then joined No.93 Sqn in North Africa. After D-Day he flew Spitfires with No.222 Sqn in France and after the war flew Meteors with No.74 Sqn. He died in 2003.

Posted to 41 Squadron, Beardsley spent months with the Tangmere Wing in 1941, remembering Bader for his determination to operate the wing on every possible occasion and his calmness of the radio which compared favourably with some other Wing Leaders. The Junkers Ju87 Sturzkampfbomber, known to the British simply as the Stuka, had already acquired a deadly reputation across Europe, its siren screaming as the ungainly dive-bomber struck terror into the hearts of those below. In 1940 its pilots crossed the Channel with their grim-looking aircraft to terrorise the southern towns and ports of England. Robert Taylors painting Open Assault, depicts Hurricanes of 501 Squadron attacking a force of Ju87 Stukas as they dive-bomb naval vessels and installations in the port of Dover on 29 July 1940. High explosive bombs detonate within the sheltered anchorage as escorting Bf109s from JG51 race in to protect their lumbering charges. Four Stukas and two Me109s are despatched, for the loss of just one RAF aircraft.

Open Assault by Robert Taylor. 		During the battle of Britain, 609 Squadron (PR) and 152 Squadron (UM) were pitting themselves against the Luftwaffe. 609 based at Middle Wallop near Andover and 152 operating from Warmwell were tasked with protecting part of 10 Groups Southern Sector.

Southern Patrol by Philip West.		 American Jim Goodson joined the Royal Air Force in 1940, and flew Spitfires with No.133 Eagle Squadron. Once America joined the war, he moved to the 4th Fighter Group flying Thunderbolts then Mustangs. He was shot down and captured in June 1944, with more than 30 enemy aircraft destroyed. He died in 2014.

Clipped Signature - Jim Goodson.		 Despite missing the Battles of France and Britain due to an old sports injury preventing him from flying, Johnnie Johnson became the top-scoring RAF Ace of the war, claiming 34 individual victories. Flew Spitfires with No.616 and No.610 Sqn then led 144, 127 and 125 Wings until the end of the war. A well known public speaker, author and personality in aviation, he died in 2001.
