Best known as leader of the legendary Zemke's Wolfpack, his famous 56th Fighter Group was the top scoring Fighter Group in the European Theater. He pioneered the use of the P-38 Droop Snoot as a bomb aiming aircraft which led the bomb-loaded P-47s on to the target with great success. One of the outstanding fighter leaders of the war, his personal tally was 17.5 victories. He died in 1994.

American fighter Ace Robert S Johnson is depicted in his 56th Fighter Group P-47 Thunderbolt with codes HV-P named 'Lucky'. Of his 27 victories during a tour of 89 combat missions from April 1943 to May 1944, he scored 21 in this aircraft. The joint sixth top-scoring American Ace of WW2, he was notably the first US pilot in the European theater to better the historic WW1 victory total of Eddie Rickenbacker, the top-scoring American Ace of that war. Post-war, he became a test-pilot and retired in 1962. He died in 1998.

Desperately attempting to transport vital supplies to the front by daylight, it has fallen prey to the cannons and bombs of the eagle eyed Thunderbolt pilots.
Bridge Busters by Anthony Saunders. 		Born in 1919, Joe Forster enlisted in the Army in 1940 and was commissioned as a pilot in 1943, flying the P-38 Lightning with 432nd Fighter Squadron. On 3rd April 1944, he was credited with his first 3 confirmed victories, eventually finishing the war with 9 confirmed victories, three probables and one damaged. He is shown here in his P-38 Lightning <i>Florida Cracker</i> of the 432nd Fighter Sqn.
