Flew Hurricanes with No.501 Sqn during the Battle of France and evacuated back to Britain with them. On the last day of July 1940, his Hurricane took off late and, arriving at Gravesend in failing light, undershot the runway and crashed, the injuries sustained ending his flying days. He died in 2008.

After converting to Hurricanes, Parkin was posted to France to join 501 Squadron. In mid-June the squadron prepared to evacuate France. The squadron reassembled at Croydon on the 21st. In the late evening of July 31st 1940 the squadron took off from Hawkinge to return to Gravesend, but his aircraft had a starting problem and he took off late. Arriving at Gravesend in failing light he undershot the runway and touched coiled barbed wire on the boundary which caused the Hurricane to become inverte

Paddy Barthropp - Flew Spitfires with No.602 Sqn during the Battle of Britain then took command of No.610 Sqn before joining No.91 Sqn. Back with No.610 Sqn, he was shot down and taken prisoner in May 1942 until the war was over. He served at the Empire Test Pilot School for almost a year and on over 100 aircraft types. He died in 2008. <i><br>Clipped together with : </i><br>Donald Jack - Flew Spitfires with No.602 Sqn during the Battle of Britain, claiming 2 victories. He later took command of No.123 Sqn then No.80 Sqn and served as a Wing Commander until 1948. He died in 2005.

A Nation Alone by Ivan Berryman. 		Having expended all his ammunition, Sgt Pilot Ronnie Fokes of 92 Squadron shadows the stricken Yellow 7 and its pilot Uffz R Hammer moments before their participation in the Battle of Britain was to end. Having sustained major damage to it's cooling system, Yellow 7 crash-landed on 30th September 1940, at Pelsham House, Peasmarsh Sussex.

Hammer Blow by David Pritchard		 Shortly after mid day on 26th August 1940, a Bolton-Paul Defiant of 264 Sqn claimed a victory that was to make history many decades later. Dornier Do.17Z2, Wk No 1160 of 7/III KG.3 had been part of a raiding force sent to attack targets in Essex. Attacked from below, the Do.17 suffered terminal damage and came to rest in the shallow waters of the Goodwin Sands, near Deal in Kent. Two of her crew died in the incident, but two others survived and became prisoners of war. In June 2013, over seventy years later, 5K+AR was raised from the water to be put on display at the RAF Museum in Hendon, becoming the only example of its type to survive anywhere in the world.

Badly injured he was admitted to Gravesend Hospital, later transferred to Halton and did not rejoin 501 until February 5th 1941. With a non-operational category, he was posted away for an instructors course on April 16th 1941 and was instructing until the end of the war. Sadly, Eric Parkin passed away on 23rd July 2008.
