Joined the RAFVR in April 1939 and was called up on the outbreak of war. He flew Blenheims during the Battle of Britain with No.29 Sqn from July 1940, and joined No.89 Sqn flying Beaufighters a year later. In autumn 1942 he was no longer allowed to fly due to medical reasons and took on a number of ground roles until leaving the RAF in 1946. He died in January 2000.

Beaufighter and Torbeau of Coastal Command.

Trouble Brewing by Keith Aspinall. 		Major Hans-Ekkehard Bob is shown claiming his 5th victory - a Blenheim - 60km west of Rotterdam on 26th June 1940. Bob went on to serve with JG.54, JG.51, JG.3, EJG2.2 and JV.44, scoring a total of 60 confirmed victories in the course of his Luftwaffe service. The Blenheim claimed as his 5th victory is likely to have been R3776 of No.110 Squadron, which was the only Blenheim recorded to have been lost participating in Operation Soest on that day - while another returned to base damaged and crash landed. The three crew of the Blenheim were all missing in action - P/O Cyril Ray Worboys, Sgt Gerald Patterson Gainsford and Sgt Kenneth Cooper.

Ltn. Hans-Ekkehard Bob of JG21 Becomes an Ace by Ivan Berryman. 		Depicting the No.19 Sqn Spitfire Mk.IIA of Flt Lt Walter Lawson attacking a Bf.109 E-4 of JG.3 in the Summer of 1940. The final tally of Lawson before he was listed as missing in August 1941 was 6 confirmed, 1 shared, 3 probables and 1 damaged. The Bf.109 shown here was flown by Oberleutnant Franz von Werra. He survived this encounter, but was shot down over Kent in September 1940.

Flt Lt Walter Lawson by Ivan Berryman. 		Flying Spitfires with No.602 Sqn, he took part in the first successful interception of enemy aircraft over Britain in World War Two. He scored several victories in the Battle of Britian until he was shot down and injured on 9th September 1940. He later took command of No.416 Sqn and No.612 Sqn and ended his career as an Air Commodore in 1973. He died in 2007.
