The Charge of the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons at Tournay by William Barnes Wollen. 		Battle of Fontenoy during the war of Austrian Succession. French victory under Marshal Maurice De Saxe over the allies (British, Dutch and German under the Duke of Cumberland), 11th May 1745. Fontenoy, 5 miles south east of Tournai (Tolnay), the battle which started with a Dutch assault and British and Hanovarian infantry advance against the French centre during the battle a sudden attack by an Irish Brigade under French command, attacked the allied forces. The allied square was broken but the British, Hanovarian and Dutch forces retreated in good order.

Battle of Fontenoy by Edouard Detaille.		Battle of Hohen Friedburg or Hohenfriedeberg. The major battle of the War of Austrian Succession fought in 1745. When Charles Albert the Elector of Bavaria died in April 1745, His son Maximilian III Joseph became elector of Bavaria and supported Francis Stephen the husband of Empress Maria Theresa of the Holy Roman Empire for the crown of Austria. In return Francis Stephen would give back all Bavarian land taken by Austria. These events isolated Frederick the Great, as Charles Albert had been an Ally. The brother in law of Maria Theresa, Prince Charles of Loraine marched his army across the Sudetic mountains towards the Prussian army of Frederick the Great. The 85,000 strong Austrian and Saxon army moved into Silesia. Against them was the Prussian army of Frederick the Great 65,000 strong At Hohenfriedburg, 35 miles south west of Breslau, in present day Poland. On June 4th the Prussian army attacked the Saxon forces which were ahead of the Austrian army. The Prussian army tactics of tightly disciplined and quick firing routed the Saxons before the Austrian force arrived. The Prussian Army then attacked the main Austrian army and after fierce fighting, the Austrian army of Prince Charles withdrew to Bohemia. Their losses were several thousand killed and wounded and several thousand captured. The Prussian losses totaled no more than 2,000. This was one of the finest victories of Frederick the Great. The Prussian Army continued to pursue the Austrian Army.
