Probably the most graceful jet aircraft ever, yet in its time deadly and effective, a Hawker Hunter of the Old Flying Machine Company who are based at Duxford in England, gets airborne for another majestic display in the hands of the late Mark Hanna.

Ray Hanna is a name many people associate with his time as leader of the Red Arrows. He had a long and varied career with the RAF from 1951 to 1971. In 1957 he led a team of four Hunters to start a remarkbale career in formation and display flying. He joined the Red Arrows on their formation with the Gnat in 1965, but it was his leadership from 1966 to 1969 that was to bring the team world wide acclaim and to Ray a bar to his AFC. Since leaving the RAF Ray has had a career in civil aviation

Fredi Ramseier
To enthusiasts all over Europe, Major Fredi Ramseier is Mr Hunter. Fredi first flew with the Patrouille Suisse in 1983 and took over as leader in 1988, taking them through until the eventual retirement of the Hunter in 1994. He stayed as leader to oversee the transition to the F-5 through 1995. Now Lt Col Ramseier, Fredi flies the F-5 Tiger and is responsible for the overall training of all pilots in the Swiss Air Force. He flew over 1000 hours on the Hunter aircraft.

FG89 Hunters, No.1 Squadron RAF. XE624 leading.

Hunters F(GA) Mk9 by Barry Price.		 A jet pilot with No.222 Sqn RAF from 1949, he joined Hawker as a test pilot in 1954. Instrumental in the development of the Hunter, Harrier and Hawk aircraft, he became Chief Test Pilot in 1970 and retired from flying in 1978. He died in 2017.

Hunter Force by Nicolas Trudgian. 		As cuts to the RAF and other armed services by the Labour Government were implemented in the late 1960s, Flt Lt Alan R Pollock of No.1 Sqn took it upon himself to stage a very personal protest whilst en route to West Raynham from Tangmere on 5th April 1968. Peeling away from the rest of his flight immediately after take off, Pollock flew low-level to London where he buzzed the Houses of Parliament three times before flying his Hawker Hunter FGA.9 under the upper spans of Tower Bridge. The incident is now part of British aviation folklore, but Pollock was immediately removed from flying duties for his audacity. He will always be recorded in history, however, as the first pilot to fly a jet aircraft <i>through</i> Tower Bridge.

Since leaving the RAF Ray has had a career in civil aviation flying Boeing 707s and later the Lockheed L-1011. His long and distinguished aviation career continues with his role as consultant and pilot with the Old Flying Machine Company and as leader of the famous Breitling Fighters. Sadly, Ray Hanna passed away on 1st December 2005.
