River Orne, D-Day, 6th June 1944. Glider troops and Tetrarch airborne tanks of 6th (Air Landing) brigade, make ready to move out from their Ranville drop zone. This brigade formed part of the second wave of the British 6th Airborne Division's landings on D-Day.

Gold Beach, Normandy, 6th June 1944. Royal Engineers of 50th division begin the dangerous task of clearing the extensive German minefields of the Normandy beachhead.

Minesweeping by David Pentland.		 Seen here in company with other 485 Sqn machines, Spitfire Mk.IXc ML407 is depicted over the Normandy beaches shortly after D-Day. Flown by New Zealander Fl Lt Johnnie Houlton, this aircraft claimed a Ju.88 on 6th June and shared in the destruction of another on the same day. Coded 'V' in honour of his wife, Vickie, ML407 is still flying today, now converted to a two-seater and regularly displayed by Carolyn Grace.

Guardians of the Beaches by Ivan Berryman. 		Dodging heavy flak and anti aircraft fire in the skies above Normandy, Douglas C-47s of the 91st Troop Carrier Squadron, 439th Troop Carrier Group see the 101st Airborne Division away on the night of 5th/6th June 1944 at the start of Operation Overlord. D-Day had arrived.

Leap of Faith by Ivan Berryman. 		Landing craft head for Juno Beach in northern France on 6th June 1944 in support of the British landings at Sword Beach, packed with Royal Marine Commandos and the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. Aside from their flanking action for the offensive on Caen, their mission was to capture the airfield at Carpiquet, but they would first have to drive through the defenses of two battalions of the German 716th Infantry and elements of the 21st Panzer Division.
