In circumstances demanding the greatest courage and coolness, sergeant O Davies and Second Corporal F. G. Perry, of the 1st Wiltshire Army Troops Company, Royal Engineers (T.F.) set to work under heavy shellfire to repair a barrel pier across a canal. They succeeded in repairing it for the passage of the wounded, and were both awarded the D.C.M. for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.
