Aviation Art Collecton - No.657 Sqn

Based at RAF Odiham, 657 Squadron, a sub unit of 9 Regiment of the Army Air Corps, and form part of the JSFAW (Joint Special Forces Aviaiton Wing) which also includes 7 Squadron RAF. In the late 1990s 657 Squadron were developed for special forces support role. 657 Sqn operate the Lynx AH7 helicopters in support of UKSF. The Lynx is a dual role attack/utility helicopter also operated by the Commando Helicopter Force The squadrons motto is Per Terras Perque Caelum (By Land and Sky). Since 2001 657 Squadorn has been used with UKSF and has been active a lot both Afghanistan and Iraq, it is almost certain that 657 Squadron have been supporting SAS and SBS operations in both areas of operations.

Aircraft of the UKs Special Forces flight perform an ALARP exercise on an MoD range at Pendine Sands, Wales. The Air Land Refuel Points (ALARP) can be located on improvised airfields or beaches and normally operate at night with the aid of Night Vision Goggles. The aircraft portrayed are a 47 Sqn Hercules refuelling a 7 Sqn Chinook and a 657 Sqn AAC Lynx. Special Forces personnel provide armed cover.
