The 617 Sqn Lancaster of Guy Gibson (G for George) thunders over the Mohne Dam on the first attack run of the Dambusters raid, 16th - 17th May 1943. After several attacks on the dam, it was finally breached by the innovative bouncing bomb designed by Barnes-Wallis.

A peaceful corner of eastern England is temporarily awakened from its summer slumbers by the thunder of Merlin engines, the familiar roar announcing the safe return of a squadron of Lancasters from their latest operation. With wheels already down, the pilots throttle back the huge engines as the heavies make their final approach to the airfield nearby. Below them quiet will soon return to the countryside and on base, after debrief, the weary bomber crews will take a well-earned rest. They don't expect it to last long - they could be flying again tonight.

A Welcome Sight by Richard Taylor. 		A Lancaster of No.15 Squadron takes to the air at the start of a night sortie from Mildenhall in June 1944.

Last One Away by Ivan Berryman. 		12th Janaury 1945 and the Lancatsers of 9 and 617 squadrons are once again taking their deadly cargo of Tallboy bombs over enemy territory. This time it is the turn of the U boat pens at Bergen in Norway. En route home the bombers are bounced by FW 190s of JG5. One of the Luftwaffe Pilots in White1, Heinze Owlowski, believes he has made a fatal attack on Lancaster KC-M piloted by Squadron Leader Tony Iveson. He salutes the crew before doing a victory roll in front of the badly damaged bomber. However, thanks to the bravery and skill of its young pilot the Lancaster would actually make it home to a force land on 3 engines at Dumburgh in the Shetland Isles. A feat for which the Squadorn Leader Iveson recieved his D.F.C.

Lancaster Attack by David Pritchard. 		Joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1941, joining No.108 Sqn flying the Wellington in 1942. He completed a tour in the Western Desert then flew a second tour on Lancasters with No.49 Sqn, ending the war having flown 47 operations. He later flew Dakotas and Liberators with RAF Transport Command.
