Looking slightly the worse for wear after her journey south to the Falkland Islands in 1982, the P&O cruise liner Canberra, requisitioned as a troop carrier at the outbreak of the conflict, is shown in the midst of an attack by Argentine Mirage aircraft in San Carlos Water during May. Believed by the Argentine pilots to be a hospital ship, Canberra herself was never targeted, but her proximity to other ships of the British task force meant that she was constantly in danger.

It is over twenty years since Argentine forces invaded the Falkland Islands. Within three days, a British task force had been mobilised and was on its way to the South Atlantic on a mission to restore the islands to British control. Soon, harrowing images that demonstrated the terrible realities of war were being beamed back to the United Kingdom. This twentieth anniversary commemorative programme is a powerful record of a war that cost more than a thousand lives. It features remarkable archive footage of the fight for the Falkland Islands, atmospheric battle reconstructions and 3D animated graphics that provide a unique perspective on famous battles such as Goose Green, Tumbledown Mountain and Wireless Ridge. The Falklands War also features the memories and recollections of British and Argentine servicemen who went to war in the South Atlantic more than twenty years ago.
The Falklands War		 Ships of the Falklands Task Force formate following the Argentine surrender in 1982. Nearest is Leander class frigate HMS Andromeda with RFA Brambleleaf in her wake. The Type 22 frigate HMS Brilliant is to the left of the picture, with the carrier HMS Invincible dominating the right. HMS Hermes and her escorts are in the extreme distance.

Victory Parade by Ivan Berryman. 		On the night of 27th May, a four man patrol from G Squadron boat troop were tasked to patrol to the summit of Mount Kent to see if it was clear. (Mount Kent was an important strategic height as it looked across to Mount Longdon, Two Sisters and Goat Ridge) A Battalion of 12th regiment Argentinean Infantry were expected to be engaged by the patrol but found the Argentineans had been airlifted the previous night to reinforce the garrison at Goose Green for the subsequent 2 Para attack. From the summit of Mount Kent, the unit could see hundreds of Argentinean soldiers with Artillery and helicopters. The relief and tension of this mission shows on their faces as they descend down to their hide position after their all night patrol. The patrol commander, a Sergeant Major and veteran of many conflicts including the Oman War, won a mention in dispatches in this conflict.
