Buck Casson flew with No.616 Sqn during the Battle of Britain claiming 4 victories. In 1941 he claimed a futher two victories over Me109s but was shot down on 9th August, and taken prisoner for the remainder of the war. He died in 2003.

Born 6th January 1915, Buck Casson completed his pilot training with the Royal Auxiliary Air Force at the outbreak of WW2. He spent the Battle of Britain with 616 Sqn, claiming a Do17, Me 109, and two He 111s, one damaged and one probable. Becoming part of the Tangmere Wing in 1941, the squadron was under the command of Douglas Bader. On 5th May 1941, he shared in a Ju88, but was forced to bale out during the action. He claimed two more Me109s, a further two probables and one damaged before

Battle of Britain, July 1940. Spitfires of 609 Squadron returning to their satellite station airfield at Warmwell to re-arm and re-fuel, following an intercept mission against enemy aircraft trying to disrupt shipping along the South Coast of England. Like many other RAF Squadrons, No 609 the (West Riding) Auxiliary Squadron distinguished itself in many great air battles with honour and courage.

Spitfires Over the Needles by Philip West.		In August 1940, Frank Carey let No 43 Squadrons A Flight into Schwarms of JU87s, escorted by Me109s. Though hopelessly outnumbered, Carey accounted for 4 JU87s before running out of ammunition.
