Joining in 1941, he became an instructor on several aircraft types before joining No.197 Sqn flying Typhoons on operations in support of D-Day and the Normandy campaign. He flew a total of 135 sorties by the end of the war, then spent a year instructing on Typhoons and Tempests.

Volunteered for the RAFVR in January 1941. He trained in Canada on Tiger Moths and Oxfords. He received his wings in April 1942 and was posted to Central Flying School. Following graduation, he taught Fleet Air Arm trainees on Harvards. He returned to the UK in March 1943 and flew Masters at AFU and Hurricanes at OTU. Frank Wheeler trained as a pilot and served as an instructor from 1941 until he joined No.174 Sqn flying Typhoons in 1944. After his tour of operations he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He died in 2013.<br><br><i>Clipped alongside the signatures of Jack Hodges and Douglas Oram - Jack Hodges joined the RAF in 1940, serving in a number of roles before flying Typhoons with No.175 Sqn then No.174 Sqn from 1944. He flew in the ground attack role until the end of the war, gaining a Distinguished Flying Cross leading an attack against a German armoured division.<br><br>Douglas Oram joined the RAF in 1942, training in the USA before being posted to No.174 Sqn flying Typhoons where he completed a year on operations. He left after the war but rejoined in 1947 until retiring in 1967.</i>

Clipped Signature - Frank Wheeler.		A fighter pilot who had flown Hurricanes and Spitfires, he joined No.245 Sqn flying rocket-equipped Typhoons in the build up to D-Day. He then specialised in tank-busting during the Normandy campaign, and later wrote best-selling books about his experiences. He died in 2000.

Clipped Signature - John Golley.		 Wing Commander Roland Beamont in his personal Tempest V, intercepted and downed his first V1 Buzzbomb on the night of June 22nd, 1944, over south east England. As Commander of 150 wing and others he went on to shoot down a total of 30 V1 flying bombs, 8 enemy aircraft and 35 locomotives destroyed plus one minesweeper sunk.

A Buzz for Beamont by David Pentland.		 Roy Crane trained on Hurricanes before joining No.182 then No.181 Sqn flying the Typhoon on ground attack missions. After more than 70 sorties, his aircraft was shot down and he was captured in August 1944, remaining captive until the end of the war. <br><br><i>Clipped alongside the signature of Pip Phillips as shown - Pip Phillips was a Typhoon pilot of No.182 Squadron. </i>

He completed 135 operations and in August 1945 was posted to an OTU to instruct on Typhoons and Tempest Vs. He was demobbed in June 1946 and flew weekends in the VR on Tiger Moths and later Chipmunks. He was called up on the G Reserve in July 1951 and flew Harvards, Spitfire XXIIs and then Vampire Vs. He stood down in September as the Korea situation eased. He passed away on March 1st, 2019.
