Joined No.616 Sqn in 1939 and moving to No.615 Sqn he flew Gladiators during the Dunkirk evacuation, then Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain. With No.64 Sqn he flew Spitfires and shot down two Do17 on the 13th of August. He was shot down on the 15th and captured, spending the rest of the war in captivity. He died in 1994.

Moving to No.615 Sqn he flew Gladiators during the Dunkirk evacuation, then converting to Hurricanes took part in the Battle of Britain. He transferred to No.64 Sqn where he flew Spitfires and shot down two Do17 on the 13th of August. Joined No.85 Sqn flying Hurricanes in September 1940, then moved to No.249 Sqn claiming an Me109. Flew from HMS Ark Royal when the squadron moved to Malta in 1941 and flew night missions, later joining No.73 Sqn in the Western Desert. After the war he flew commercially for BOAC and British Airways until 1975. He died in 2008.

Clipped Signature - 'Tommy' Thompson.		The world's only airworthy Sea Hurricane Z7015, a Mk1b, belonging to the Shuttleworth Collection soars past the famous tree line at Old Warden airfield in Bedfordshire, UK. Both airframe and engine have been painstakingly restored to their former glory.

Sea Hurricane by Robert Tomlin.		A large umbrella of Spitfire Wings covered most of the sky over Dieppe during the Allied attack Operation Jubilee on 19th August 1942. Squadron leader Johnnie Johnson leads 610 (County of Chester) Squadron down from top cover support to lend a hand to Spitfires of 485 Squadron (New Zealand) and 411 Squadron (Canadian) which made up the 12 Group Wing, led by W/C Pat Jameson. The enemy being made up of a huge mixed force of Fw190 and Me109 fighters from JG2 and JG26. 12 Group Wing flew four times that disastrous day and in the end the Royal Air Force lost 106 aircraft compared to the Luftwaffe losses of 48.

The Battle for the Skies Over Dieppe, 19th August 1942 by Graeme Lothian. 		Fighter general shows Dolfo Galland leading a schwarm of BF109s out low at tree top height over the Kent countryside after doing battle with spitfires, during the last week of August 1940. This remarkable pilot was awarded the Knights Cross as a Major on the 15th August. His daring and leadership won the hearts of his men and respect from RAF Pilots. The Oak leaves was awarded on the 23rd September 1940 and crossed Swords in June 1941 after 69 victories. At the end of 1941 at age only 29 he was promoted Inspector General of the Fighter Arm. Leaving his post as Kommodore JG26 to Gerhard Schoepfel he was awarded the Diamonds to the Knights Cross in January 1942 at Oberst. As the youngest General in the German High Command he held this post until 1944, after open disagreements with Goring let to his dismissal. Reverting to combat flying he formed, with Steinhoff, the legendary JV-44, flying the ME262 jet fighter. His score by wars end stood at 104 all on the western Front. he was the only General to lead a squadron into battle.
