Tribute to Oberleutnant Heinrich Ehrler by Ivan Berryman.

Viciously maligned for failing to prevent the sinking of the German battleship Tirpitz at Kaafjord on 12th November 1944, Heinrich Ehrler was one of the Luftwaffe's greatest leaders, highly decorated and respected by all who flew with him. The Bf.109s of 6./JG5, based at Petsamo in Finland, took on a variety of difficult roles in the Scandinavian theatre, operating in the most testing of conditions, often round the clock in the summer months. Here, Ehrler's own machine, Yellow 12 leads other aircraft of 6./JG5 on a patrol above the mighty Norwegian fjords.

Walter Schuck of JG5 Eismeer prepares to take off on patrol in his Me109F. Schuck served with this unit from December 1942 to April 1945, and in that time claimed 198 victories.

Eagle in the Snow, Petsamo, Finland, January 1943 by David Pentland.		 Credited with more than 130 victories in World War Two, Alfred Grislawksi scored 24 of these on the Western Front. He is depicted here flying his Me109 with JG53 in what would be his last combat on 26th September 1944. Having shot down a P-38 Lightning earlier in the day, he was shot down in the combat shown by the P-51 Mustang of American Ace Hub Zemke and bailed out. Opening his parachute very low for fear of being shot at, he landed hard and damaged vertebrae, and did not recover before the end of the war. Awarded the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, he died in 2003 aged 83.

Tribute to Alfred Grislawski by Ivan Berryman. 		Fairey Battle HA-J of No.218 Sqn is taken by surprise by the close pass of a Bf109E over France. The squadron were based at Auberive-sur-Suippes in 1939, and as part of the Advance Air Striking Force of the RAF during the Battle of France, suffered heavy losses. An aircraft carrying the codes HA-J was shot down by flak on the afternoon of 12th May 1940. The three crew of aircraft K9353, J B Horner, L C Flisher and L D Davies were all lost.
