HMS Hermes - Under Leaden Skies by Ivan Berryman.

Laid down as early as June 1944, HMS Hermes (R12) was not commissioned into the Royal Navy until 25th November 1959. This fine ship has enjoyed a long and varied career, perhaps its most notable role being that of flagship to the British Task Force that was sent to liberate the Falkland Islands following the Argentine invasion of 1982. She was decommissioned in 1984 and sold to the Indian Navy, whereupon she was renamed Viraat. Hermes is depicted here in stormy weather in the late 1970s before the Harrier 'ski jump' was added to her bow in readiness for the Falklands Campaign.

HMS Hermes - Under Leaden Skies by Ivan Berryman. 		HMS Broadsword and the aircraft carrier Hermes battle their way through the storm on their way to the Battle for the Falklands.

Storm Force to the Falklands by Anthony Saunders 		Spearheading the Falklands Task Force as it heads south in 1982, the carrier HMS Hermes is shown in company with two Type 21 frigates, HMS Arrow on the left and HMS Ardent in the near foreground. In the far distance, HMS Glamorgan glints in the sun as Type 42 HMS Sheffield cuts across behind Hermes. All pennant numbers were painted out and a vertical black identification stripe applied to all the Type 42s to distinguish them from their Argentine counterparts.
